One true treasure in the Blue Ridge Mountains is the DuPont State Forest. Located between Hendersonville and Brevard, this 10,000+ acre forest is home to some of the most magnificent waterfalls!
Located in an upland plateau of the Little River valley, this forest has many trails and roads for you to explore. One very popular trek is the 3 mile roundtrip that includes 3 of the stunning waterfalls – High Falls, Triple Falls, and Hooker Falls. Feeling more adventurous? How about the 7 mile hike that takes in even more waterfalls and mountain views. This forest isn’t only for hikers but also welcomes mountain biking and horseback riding (subject to each trail’s specifications).
Many films have been shot at this location, including scenes from “The Last of the Mohicans” and “The Hunger Games”. Pictured below is High Falls, which is an easy hike from the parking area but the reward is seeing this 150-foot beauty.
