One of the many perks of living in The Cliffs Communities or in The Reserve at Lake Keowee is your access to the many wonderful state parks! One North Carolina park that is not too far across the state line is the Gorges State Park in Transylvania County. If you have not had the chance to visit, you are missing out! The Visitor Center is itself a beautiful example of modern architecture. Inside, there are many informative displays and exhibits about the area, including the wildlife, flora, views, and not to forget the waterfalls. The center is also LEED Gold certified, which is a green building program that recognizes best-in-class strategies and practices for buildings. Here at the Visitors Center, you can view the stunning Blue Ridge mountains right off the porch or feel free to stay warm and cozy inside next to the fireplace!
There is a special event for this park fast approaching and that is the Gorges Gorgeous Colors! Held October 15th, this event at the state park includes live bluegrass music, local vendors, hayrides, plus education programs on topics such as black bears, astronomy and more. Being a family and pet friendly event surrounded by the changing leaves of North Carolina mountains…what more could one ask for? Did we mention the event is free? If interested, please visit the park’s website for specific directions as most GPS services are not reliable in that area. Click here the Gorges State Park website.
