Memorial Day is fast approaching and to celebrate the summer season, why not get outdoors and try something new? Western North Carolina has several beautiful mountain towns, bustling with new arts scenes. Farmer markets, outdoor music, and art popups are starting to start up again in time for Summer, highlighting this region of the Appalachian’s talented artisans.
Some of our favorite towns in the area are hosting unique events during Memorial Day weekend. With less than a couple hours drive from Lake Keowee and our greater Upstate area, those craving small town charm have a plethora of options this year! Below are our favorite events taking place in Western NC.
Hendersonville, NC: The Garden Jubilee
In Hendersonville, you can attend one of the largest gardening showing in the area! The Garden Jubilee of Main Street Hendersonville will feature over 200 plant and craft vendors from May 28th through 29th. The event takes up over 8 blocks in historic downtown! Vendors will be selling a variety of plants such as perennials, vegetables, and herbs. You might just locate that rare plant you have been searching for! There will also be a mix of vendors selling garden tools and decorations like bird baths, bird houses, and other garden decor. Experts will be on hand, giving out gardening tips and advice at the Visitor Center. For details on this event, such as hours, please click here [https://visithendersonvillenc.org/garden-jubilee].

Lake Lure, NC: Spring Arts Festival
Maybe art is calling your heart for that weekend? Then look no further than the Lake Lure Spring Arts Festival. Running from Saturday, May 28th through Monday the 30th, this event will allow you to browse and buy from over 90 artists of a wide variety of disciplines! So far, vendors who have signed up include glass artisans, jewelry makers, painters, more than half a dozen potteries, and almost as many soap and candle makers. This year also has over a dozen various woodworkers. There will also be food vendors and a dedicated kid zone with putt putt and face painting. Of course, the lovely Lake Lure serves as the backdrop! While in the area, stop by the Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain to pay tribute to the heroes that Memorial Day is in honor of. All 5,700-plus graves will have an American flag in place and it is a very touching place to be.
