You may have heard of The Café @ Williams Hardware, a family-run café in Travelers Rest, but if not, now is the time to check it out! The restaurant is owned and operated by two sisters, Joyce and Nancy McCarrell, who grew up in the Travelers Rest area. The building? The old brick structure that once housed the Williams Hardware Store. Just take one step inside and you feel at welcomed! You can browse through the wide variety of items in their gift shop, most from the local craftspeople of the area. When you are ready to dine, the hardest part is selecting what to have from their mouth-watering menu. They are open for breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays and for lunch the entire week (please click here for hours).
Something else extra special about this place? Their executive chef, Christina Halstead, recently won the grand prize in a national recipe contest! That’s right, Christina entered her recipe to the General Mills Neighborhood to Nation recipe contest and won $50,000! The prize included $10,000 for her to share with a local non-profit too! Her recipe that won? A BLT on a pimento cheese buttermilk biscuit with red pepper jelly. If you are thinking like I am, you are now craving to try this dish! Good news is that it is on the menu at The Café @ Williams Hardware so take a trip to Travelers Rest and enjoy some award winning cuisine!
