BMW in Spartanburg Awarded 3 J.D. Power Awards

This year, the Spartanburg BMW plant made the news in a BIG way. Not one, but three vehicle models that are produced at the Upstate plant recently were awarded J.D. Power awards!

The BMW X4 Compact SUV, BMW X7 SUV, and the BMW X6 SUV all ranked the highest in their respective groups in both the J.D. U.S. Power IQS and APEAL Studies.

J.D. Power is the leader in automobile ratings and been surveying customers, awarding auto manufacturers awards for quality and satisfaction for over 50 years. The J.D. Power U.S. IQS (Initial Quality Study) judges vehicles on their quality 90 days after purchase. The APEALS Study award is short for J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) Study. This study looks at how happy purchasers were with their vehicle after the same 90 day period. J.D. Power surveyed over 100,000 vehicle owners for their feedback for the awards.

Quoting directly from BMW press page, “Building premium quality vehicles for our customers is our top priority, and these awards are a testament to the commitment and dedication of our great workforce,” said Robert Engelhorn, president and CEO of BMW Manufacturing. “The fact that we earned these six awards in the middle of a pandemic makes this even more remarkable.”

About the Spartanburg Plant

This is the first time in the plant’s history to win 6 awards in one year!  The awards are especially boastful for the Upstate area, given that our Spartanburg plant employs over 11,000 people and provides almost half of all BMWs sold in the US annually! On top of supplying US demand, our local plant ships most of it’s output internationally to over 125 markets.  We could not be more proud of the hard working South Carolinians that, through their teamwork and skill, were able to bring these awards home to our Upstate. Well done!
